Driver Qualification File
Qualification of Drivers is detailed under Regulation 49 CFR 391. Obtaining one of these files is required if you are operating interstate over 10,000lbs GVWR, or if you are intrastate but based in a qualified state. Call in to speak with an agent if you are unsure of your state’s requirement.
A Driver Qualification File is a ~25 page legal document that addresses 71 points of information regarding the driver’s background information. Some of those points include, but are not limited to:
Motor Vehicle Report
Road Test & Certification
Investigation of Previous Employers, etc.
You will be required to provide this file at your safety officer’s request during the time of your New Entrant Safety Audit.
In order to complete this file we require a ~15 minute phone interview with the driver to collect all necessary information. Once the interview has been completed the Driver Qualification department will obtain the driving record, assemble the file, and e-mail the completed document to you, typically within 2-3 business days. The file will then need to be printed out, signed, and kept in a secure location at your place of business.
