What is a BOC-3 provider?

A BOC-3 provider is an individual or organization that has procured a certified list of registered agents in each state that can send and receive legal documents on behalf of another party should they be involved in an accident or lawsuit that occurs outside of the party’s home state.

What exactly does the provider do?

The BOC-3 provider / registered agent can electronically file and attach the BOC-3 form to a transportation company’s MC, MX, or FF Number. This includes carriers, brokers, household goods movers, and so forth. The FMCSA requires any company with an authority to obtain a BOC-3 in order to become authorized to operate with that authority.

How does one become an authorized provider?

In order to become a BOC-3 provider, the applicant must submit various documents and filings to the FMCSA showing that a registered agent has been obtained in all 50 states and all other requirements to become a process agent have been met.
